Redfish Retreat | 2024
Overview
A Journey Beyond the Catch
Fly-fishing isn’t just about the fish—it’s about the connections we build along the way. It’s about women coming together to challenge themselves, support each other, and share in the thrill of the cast. This past October, a group of adventurous anglers joined me for an unforgettable women’s fly-fishing retreat in Louisiana, chasing powerful Redfish in the rich waters of the Mississippi River Delta.
Whether experienced in saltwater fly-fishing or casting into the marsh for the first time, each woman brought her own excitement, energy, and passion for the sport. Over the course of five days, we built more than just fishing skills—we forged a community, one where encouragement, learning, and laughter flowed as freely as the tides.
Day 1
Arrivals & Anticipation: As our group arrived, there was an immediate sense of camaraderie—a shared excitement for the adventure ahead. We gathered that evening for an incredible welcome dinner, where introductions quickly turned into storytelling, and the anticipation for the next day’s fishing grew with every shared experience.
Some had traveled across the country for this trip, while others were familiar faces from past adventures. But regardless of background or experience, we were all here for the same reason—to push ourselves, to explore new waters, and to be part of something bigger than just a fishing trip.
Day 2
Redfish & Revelations: Our first morning on the water started with the golden light of sunrise painting the Louisiana marsh. With expert guides leading the way, we set out into some of the most abundant Redfish waters in North America, where huge, copper-backed fish patrolled the shallows, their wakes slicing through the glassy water.
For many, this was a first-time experience in the salt—learning how to spot fish, adjust casting angles, and read the tides. Others refined their techniques, targeting the biggest fish of the day.
Memorable Moment: One of our anglers, after countless perfect casts, finally landed her first-ever Redfish. The cheers from the boat echoed across the marsh—a reminder of the shared victories that define this kind of experience.
Lunch on the boat was a chance to soak in the beauty of the Delta, a moment of pause before the afternoon session. As we wrapped up the day and returned to the lodge, the excitement was electric—stories of missed fish, big eats, and unexpected surprises filled the evening as we gathered once again over an incredible meal.
Day 3
Strength in the Water, Strength in Ourselves: By day three, something incredible happens on a trip like this—the group shifts from just fishing together to truly supporting one another. The morning conversations were filled with tips, encouragement, and excitement for each other’s success.
One by one, anglers who started the trip hesitant about their saltwater skills gained confidence. The first-time Redfish hunters were now calling their shots, making precise casts, and fighting fish like pros.
The highlight of the day? A massive Redfish that put up a fight to remember, pushing gear to its limits before finally being brought to hand. The pure joy, celebration, and shared excitement from the entire group was something special.
That night, as we sat around the dinner table, we weren’t just a group of anglers anymore—we were a community. A community that lifts each other up, that celebrates success in all forms, and that understands that every cast is part of a bigger journey.
Day 4
The Final Chase: The last day on the water always feels bittersweet. The morning brought one final chance to cast for Louisiana’s legendary Redfish, and everyone was all-in.
By now, every angler had grown in skill and confidence. Fly placement was sharper, reactions were quicker, and the fights were even more thrilling. Each fish was celebrated—whether it was the biggest of the trip or the hardest-earned.
Lunch was shared on the water one last time, surrounded by the incredible landscape of the Delta. We reflected on how much we had all learned—not just about fishing, but about ourselves, our resilience, and the strength found in a group of supportive women.
The day ended with a final dinner, a toast to new friendships, and a promise to meet again—on another river, another tide, but always with the same spirit of adventure.
Day 5
Departure with Full Hearts: As we packed our bags and said our goodbyes, the real takeaway wasn’t just the fish we caught, but the bonds we built. Fly-fishing is often seen as a solo pursuit, but this trip proved something different—that when women come together on the water, we lift each other up, celebrate every success, and create something truly special.
This was more than just a fishing trip. This was about strengthening the Women’s Fly-Fishing community—one cast, one laugh, and one unforgettable adventure at a time.
Until next time—tight lines and strong friendships.

Final Reflections
Women’s Fly-Fishing is more than just a sport—it’s a movement, a space where women can explore, challenge themselves, and connect through a shared love of the water. This trip was just another step in building that community, and I can’t wait to see where it takes us next.
For those who joined me—thank you for making this adventure incredible. For those who haven’t yet—I hope to see you on the water soon.
