Alaska Triple Crown | 2025

Overview

How can this trip be anything but incredible? We plan it to offer a taste of the best of Alaska FlyFishing.

Day 1

after spending the night in the cozy Swan Sanctuary log cabin, our guides met us in the Troutfitters parking lot for a quick drive to Moose Pass, headquarters for float planes on the Seward side of the Kenai Peninsula.  Nothing makes me feel like a Real Alaska more than flying in a float plane.  After a short, beautiful flight, we landed on a mountain lake and started our hunt for Arctic grayling.

I won’t lie. The weather was not the best. But we were well equipped and had a great day, casting nymphs and dry flies. We had Trinity float tubes to navigate the lake.  The rain may have put the bite off, but we enjoyed the effort. Our visitors from Utah had the best success and it was great to see big smiles.

Day 2

The morning greeted us with sunny weather with just enough cloud cover to make for decent angling.  We wanted traditional fly fishing and our Kenai river drift boat guide delivered in spades.  Casting beautiful hand tied flies, we found dollies and rainbow trout - and a lone grayling! The Green Drake was the Fly of the Day. We fished seams and tree lined riverbanks. This was a spectacular day of fishing the Kenai River. One that will not soon be forgotten.

Day 3

The day began with an early checkout and a quick drive over to Seward where our ocean boat awaited. This saltwater boat is designed for the fly angler by Captain Jimmy Akana. We headed out Resurrection Bay to pursue Silver Salmon, rockfish and potential halibut.

Our first stop was to watch humpback whales in a bubble feeding frenzy. The sight was hard to leave, but fishing awaited.

We were lucky on this day to find pink salmon, silver salmon, and rockfish. Ocean angling with a fly rod adds a new level to the fly fishing experience.  One guest set the boat record for largest silver salmon - it was a lunker!!  Everyone had fish to take home from the bountiful Alaskan waters.

The triple crown offers a diverse experience of Alaska fishing. We have other trips too. Take a look and join us in 2026.
